Dogs can walk Yosemite's paved paths, roads and most campgrounds, including the paved routes to Bridalveil Fall and Lower Yosemite Fall. Hiking trails are off limits, except the Wawona Meadow Loop.

Where dogs can go

  • Developed areas.
  • Fully paved roads, sidewalks, and bike paths, unless signed as no pets.
  • Most campgrounds, but not walk-in or group campsites.
  • In Wawona: Chowchilla Mountain Road and the Four Mile and Eleven Mile fire roads.
  • Near Hodgdon Meadow: Carlon Road from the trailhead to Hodgdon Meadow, and the Old Big Oak Flat Road from Hodgdon Meadow to the Tuolumne Grove parking lot.
  • The road within Tuolumne Grove, but not the nature trail.
  • Leash no longer than 6 feet, at all times.

Off limits for dogs

  • Trails, including the trail to Vernal Fall, even if your pet is carried. The Wawona Meadow Loop is the exception.
  • The unpaved trail around Mirror Lake.
  • Four Mile Trail in Yosemite Valley.
  • Wilderness and all other undeveloped areas.
  • All meadows, beaches, and waterways.
  • Public buildings, shuttle buses, and lodging areas, including Housekeeping Camp.
  • Unplowed roads covered in snow.
  • Walk-in and group campgrounds, including Camp 4.

Camping with your dog: Pets are allowed in all campgrounds except walk-in campgrounds, such as Camp 4, and group campsites.

Good to know, from the park

  • Pet food is bear food. Store it the same way you store human food.
  • Heat and elevation can affect your pet in summer. Bring water, snacks, and paw protection from pavement.
  • Rabies and distemper have been found in park wildlife. Keep your pet vaccinated and on a leash.
  • Toxic algae blooms can make animals sick if they drink, swim, or play in affected water.
