No trails in the park allow dogs. Leashed dogs can walk roads, sidewalks, campgrounds and picnic areas, including the sidewalk at the Painted Canyon overlook.

Where dogs can go

  • Roads and road shoulders, sidewalks, and parking areas.
  • Campgrounds and picnic areas.
  • The sidewalk at the Painted Canyon Visitor Center, with views of the badlands.
  • Leash no longer than 6 feet, at all times.

Off limits for dogs

  • All trails within the park.
  • Sections of the Maah Daah Hey Trail inside the park.

Camping with your dog: Leashed pets are allowed in campgrounds.

Good to know, from the park

  • Dogs can upset bison, horses, and other animals. Keep extra distance from wildlife.
  • On hot days, walk in shaded campgrounds and picnic areas. The rest of the park is in full sun.
  • Never leave pets alone.
