Dogs are allowed on almost all of the 500+ miles of trail. The closed list adds up to fewer than 20 miles, but it includes a few famous ones.

- Fox Hollow Trail
- Stony Man Trail (you can walk the Appalachian Trail part, but not the turn to the summit)

- Old Rag: Ridge Trail, Saddle Trail, Ridge Access Trail, and Post Office Junction to Old Rag Shelter
- Dark Hollow Falls Trail
- Story of the Forest Trail
- Bearfence Mountain Trail
- Frazier Discovery Trail
- Ranger programs
Camping with your dog: Pets are allowed in campgrounds, and pet-friendly lodging is available.
Good to know, from the park
- Think ahead about bears, skunks and snakes. Know how your dog will react.
- Ask whether your dog has the endurance and paw pads for the trail you picked.
- Pack out waste bags if there's no trash can nearby.
