About 100 miles of trail and 45 miles of carriage roads are open to dogs. Skip the ladder and rung trails, which are closed or not recommended for pets.
Where dogs can go
- Most hiking trails and all 45 miles of carriage roads
- Blackwoods, Seawall and Schoodic Woods campgrounds
- Isle au Haut, for day hikes only
- Leash no longer than 6 feet, at all times.
Off limits for dogs
- Closed to pets: Precipice, Beehive, Ladder Trail to Dorr Mountain, Beech Cliffs, Perpendicular Trail, and Jordan Cliffs between Penobscot East Trail and the carriage road
- Sand Beach (June 15 to Sept 8) and Echo Lake (May 15 to Sept 15)
- Swimming in most lakes, which are public water supplies
- Duck Harbor Campground, Wild Gardens of Acadia, public buildings and ranger programs
Camping with your dog: Blackwoods, Seawall and Schoodic Woods campgrounds allow pets.
Good to know, from the park
- The park also lists trails that are open but not recommended for dogs, like Acadia Mountain and the Upper Beachcroft Trail. Check the full list before you go.
- Don't leave your dog unattended, including at campsites or in cars.
- Check for ticks after every hike.
